The Democratic Women of Union County, (DWUC) was organized in September of 1962, for the purpose of encouraging all Democratic Women to participate in the workings of their party as a public service in the belief that the party system is the strength of our great representative form of government.

OBJECTIVES:

  • To support the principles of the Democratic Party;

  • To encourage women to seek public office and to participate in Democratic Party activities;

  • To work with the Union County Democratic Party Executive Committee to strengthen the Democratic Party in Union County;

  • To work for the election of Democratic Party candidates;

  • To initiate and carry out programs and projects on behalf of the Democratic Party and Democratic candidates.

Membership is open to all women who are registered Democrats and Men who are registered Democrats may also join as associate non-voting members.

We meet the second Monday of each month at the Old Armory Community Center, 500 South Johnson St., Monroe, NC 28112.

In January and February our Program and Business meeting commences at 12 noon.

In March thru June we meet at the same location with our Program and Business meeting commencing at 7:00PM.

An annual fund raising banquet, known as the "Donkey Dinner", is also sponsored by the DWUC and is typically held in the Spring. Profits are used to make contributions to Democratic candidates in the General Election and to the Union County North Carolina Democratic Party.

In August we have our annual "Red, White & Blue All-American Picnic."

In September thru December we resume our monthly meetings at the Old Armory Community Center with our Program and Business meeting commencing at 7:00PM.

A program may be announced prior to the meeting in the Enquirer Journal and the Union Observer as well as here on this website.
